Is a gel manicure worth the price?
That depends on how you use your hands and how long you want the polish to last. A gel manicure stays chip-free for about 2 to 3 weeks, while regular polish lasts about 5 to 7 days. Spread over two to three weeks, a $35 gel manicure works out to roughly $12 to $17 a week; a $25 Classic Manicure you redo weekly is $25 a week. If you like changing colors often, or you need a nail to look good for one event, regular polish may suit you better.

How to compare salon prices fairly
A $35 gel manicure at one salon and a $40 one at another are not always the same service, so ask a few things before you compare.
- What is included in the base price: shaping, cuticle care, massage, the gel polish itself?
- Is chrome, cat-eye, French tip or nail art extra, and what is each one?
- Is there a charge to remove an old set, and how long does it take?
- What happens if a nail lifts or chips in the first week?
- Does the price quoted over the phone match what you pay at the desk?
